HC Deb 02 March 1988 vol 128 c566W
Mr. Sayeed

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what categories of applicant for settlement in the United Kingdom will be exempt or subject to reduced fees under clause 8 of the Immigration Bill.

Mr. Renton

No firm decision has yet been taken on how the powers in clause 8 of the Immigration Bill might be implemented. Regulations under clause 8 may prescribe different fees for different categories of applicant, including the possibility of exemptions from the fee. At first sight, we think that there may be a case for reductions in the case of refugees and those, such as spouses and fiancé(e)s, who are admitted on conditions specifically with a view to settlement. Final decisions will be taken when we come to draw up regulations under clause 8.
