§ Mr. William RossTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he expects to complete the process of monitoring rivers and streams in Northern Ireland to decide whether they reach the standards set down for salmonid waters in European Community directive 78/659/EEC.
§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 26 February 1988]: A total of 1,062 km of the main salmonid waters have already been designated and are monitored to ensure that the requirements of European Community directive 78/659/EEC are met. It is the Department's intention to extend designations as resources permit, but, with other priorities, I am unable to give firm dates for completion.
