§ 40. Mr. David Shaw
To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many working days were lost through strikes in 1987 and 1978.

§ Mr. Nicholls
The number of working days lost through stoppages of work due to industrial disputes in 1987 is provisionally estimated as 3,476,000. This compares with 9,405,000 working days lost in 1978.

§ 55. Mr. Sumberg
To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the numbers of work days lost due to strikes in December 1987 and December 1978.

§ Mr. Nicholls
The number of working days lost through stoppages of work due to industrial disputes in December 1987 is provisionally estimated as 38,000. This compares with 542,000 working days lost in December 1978.
