HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 c538W
64. Mr. Andrew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if, pursuant to the reply of 2 February,Official Report, column 542, he will explain why some 12 per cent. of people interviewed on the Government's restart programme were not offered positive help in finding a job; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The circumstances of some people interviewed under restart are such that an offer of help is inappropriate. They include those already on programmes such as job club as well as those who, for a variety of reasons, are about to cease claiming unemployment benefits.

76. Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the latest number of people obtaining full-time work after participating in the Government's restart scheme.

Mr. Lee

The aim of the restart programme is to help unemployed people into employment by selecting the best way open to them from a wide range of employment, training and job search opportunities available. It is not possible to say how many of those people selected for interview under restart ultimately obtain full-time work, since we do not follow up every participant.
