HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 c554W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has concerning the gross and net losses and gains in employment within the statutory area of the London Docklands development corporation.

Mr. Trippier

The LDDC estimates that between 1981 and 1986 10,700 jobs were attracted to docklands, and 7,413 jobs were lost, resulting in a net gain of 3,287 jobs.

A new survey of employment in docklands was carried out by the LDDC in 1987. Its findings will be published shortly. From what can be seen in docklands, a further growth of employment is likely to be confirmed.
