HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 cc512-3W
Mr. Atkinson

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he has any plans to introduce new labelling rules to discourage the trade in imported furs from animals caught in steel-jaw leg-hold traps.

Mr. Alan Clark

My Department is currently consulting publicly on a proposed order under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 which would require the labelling of goods made from the fur of certain species to the effect that those species are commonly caught by means of leg-hold traps. The purpose of this measure would be to ensure that the consumer has the information necessary to make an informed choice.
