§ Sir Dudley SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what proposals he has for creating greater public awareness of the incidence of the sexually transmitted disease, chlamydia.
§ Mrs. Currie[holding answer 29 February 1988]: The symptons caused by chlamydia are common to many other infections and consequently diagnosis of it is usually possible only after the analysis of samples taken. This is usually done when a patient attends at a clinic. However, the Health Education Authority's leaflet "Guide to a healthy sex life", which has been made widely available to the public, contains a section on the causes, symptoms and treatment of non-specific genital infections, including chlamydia.
