Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask We Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what representations he has received on the future of British Steel's pension scheme.

Mr. Atkins

I have received a number of representations from individual pensioners and employees of BSC seeking clarification of the position after privatisation. Both the Government and the corporation are well aware of the concern of those affected by this issue and we hope it will be possible to clarify the position shortly. It has, of course, been the experience of previous privatisations that satisfactory arrangements have been made on this point.
