§ Mr. Gordon BrownTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the total advance corporation tax repayments made by the Inland Revenue in the last324W financial year; what is the number of recipients of these refunds; and what percentage of the refunds go to the 10 biggest recipients.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[holding answer 24 June 1988]: Repayments of ACT amounted to £140 million in 1987–88. This figure represents the total ACT repaid to the companies which originally paid it. The 10 largest recipients accounted for 42 per cent. of the total repayment. I regret that a figure for the total number of recipients is not available.
