§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the total costs of, and man-hours devoted to, the policing of major industrial disputes in London in the last three years; and what proportion of these costs has been recovered.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe News International dispute at Wapping was the only industrial dispute in the last three years which has required the maintenance of public order on a large scale.
I understand that the additional cost to the Metropolitan police of policing the dispute was about £5.75 million and involved over 1,280,000 police man-hours. None of the cost was recoverable.
