§ 97. Ms. MowlamTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence when a decsion will be made on the European fighter aircraft radar.
§ Mr. SainsburyI have nothing to add to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Rhondda (Mr. Rogers) on 17 March, at column 626.
§ Mr. ThurnhamTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many jobs will be created in the north-west as a result of the decision to take part in the development of the European fighter aircraft; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. SainsburyAs my right hon. Friend said in his statement on 25 April, at column 21, we estimate that the decision to embark on full development of the European fighter aircraft will give direct long-term employment to between 3,000 and 4,000 people in the United Kingdom. It is not possible to provide a breakdown of this estimate by region, but a significant proportion would be employed at British Aerospace, Warton.
