HC Deb 27 June 1988 vol 136 c1W
Mr. Winnick

To ask the Prime Minister if she intends to make an appeal herself to the State President of South Africa to reprieve the Sharpeville Six; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

It would be premature to consider intervening again with the South African Government before the legal processes are exhausted.

However, as was made clear in the chairman's summary of discussions on South Africa at the Toronto summit on 20 June, we continue to urge that all legal options available in South Africa should be used to secure clemency for the Six.
