§ Sir William ClarkTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether, in the light of the recent ruling by the Advertisement Standards Authority that certain advertisements issued by the Campaign for Independent Financial Advice are misleading, he will now take steps, pursuant to the answer of Friday 6 May,Official Report, column 645, to ensure that the public are not misled as to the standards required of advisers regulated under the Financial Services Act 1986.
§ Mr. MaudeI understand that the advertisements referred to by my hon. Friend relate to the period prior to 29 April, the date on which the main provisions of the Financial Services Act came into force. With the commencement of the provisions of the Financial Services Act relating to advertisements and the Control of Misleading Advertisements Regulations I am confident that adequate machinery is being established in this area.
