§ Mr. Douglas HoggAs I informed the House on 7 June, at column 709, my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary has asked the deputy director general of the Prison Service, Mr. G. H. Lakes, CB, MC, to conduct an urgent investigation into the recent incident at Haverigg prison. The inquiry will be comprehensive and wide-ranging and will consider all relevant factors which may have contributed to the incident. My right hon. Friend will report Mr. Lakes' conclusions to the House.
