Mr. Wheeler

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the implementation date for the revised customs interpretation of the value added tax treatment of credit-checking services; and if such services remain standard rated.

The service of checking on the creditworthiness of a particular subject is standard-rated for VAT purposes. This has been so since the inception of the tax; there has been no recent change in Customs' interpretation of the law. If my hon.
