HC Deb 23 June 1988 vol 135 c689W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the number of his Department's wartime buffer depots in each constituency and the type of food and amount contained in each; how often the contents are checked; how long the food has been in stock; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Information about the types of food held in the strategic stockpile is given in section 11 of the emergency planning guidance issued to local authorities by the Home Office and is available through the House of Commons Library. Foods in the stockpile are maintained in good condition through a programme of systematic turnover, and regular inspections by scientific and other staff ensure that their quality is maintained and that they are wholesome, in good condition and ready to eat. In the interests of national security information on the levels and locations of the stockpile is not made available.
