To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on trends in crime in South Yorkshire.

Figures announced by the South Yorkshire police on 13 May show that in the 12 months to the end of March 1988, crime in South Yorkshire fell by 1 per cent. This is welcome news.
