HC Deb 23 June 1988 vol 135 cc716-7W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received regarding his refusal to fund the introduction of a new qualifying diploma in social work; and what was the nature of these representations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

We have received about 20 letters, which express continuing support for the introduction of a new qualifying diploma in social work. I have also met representatives of the parliamentary panel on the personal social services and of the professional social work associations to discuss their views.
