To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has for ensuring access to basic sanitation for all prisoners.

By 1995, 75 per cent. of all prison places will have access to sanitation, compared with 43 per cent. in 1979. Trial schemes which might accelerate the introduction of integral sanitation are being tested in 13 different establishments.
