HC Deb 23 June 1988 vol 135 c647W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the maximum weight of aircraft and speed of impact provided for in the design of nuclear power stations to withstand the impact of aircraft crashes.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The hazards associated with aircraft crashing on to nuclear power stations are assessed by the Health and Safety Executive's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate. An assessment of the hazard at each site shows that the risk of an impact is sufficiently low to support the judgment that no specific features need to be incorporated into the design of the stations to take account of aircraft impacts.
