HC Deb 23 June 1988 vol 135 c636W
Mr. Janner

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what provision will be made for health education within the GCSE curriculum, in particular warning against solvent abuse; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

GCSE syllabuses are determined by the GCSE examining groups in accordance with the GCSE general criteria and with the subject-specific national criteria, where appropriate. GCSE criteria and syllabuses will be revised to reflect the 16-plus attainment targets and programmes of study for the national curriculum subjects, including any relating to health education which is a cross-curricular theme to be covered within the core and other foundation subjects.
