HC Deb 23 June 1988 vol 135 cc685-6W
Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any plans to vary the number of grades of those working in the forensic services of the Home Office.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Proposals for altering the grading structure within Home Office forensic science laboratories are being considered in consultation with the Institution of Professional Civil Servants. The proposed new structure offers a sound basis for the future development of the service and provides reasonable career prospects for staff.

Sir Michael McNair-Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any proposals for reducing the staffing numbers currently employed in the forensic services of the Home Office(a) generally and (b) at Aldermaston.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Proposals to alter the grading structure within Home Office forensic science laboratories are under consideration, but there are no plans to reduce the overall numbers of staff in the forensic science service, either generally or at Aldermaston.
