§ Mr. MorleyTo ask the Chancellor of Duchy of Lancaster what measures will be taken following the proposed privatisation of the British Steel Corporation to ensure that the people of Dragonby, near Scunthorpe, and the county council as the highway authority will receive adequate compensation from any subsidence damage to either homes or roads arising from former deep-level iron-stone mines in the ownership of the British Steel Corporation in the vicinity.
§ Mr. Atkins[holding answer 20 June 1988]Under the terms of the British Steel Bill, currently before Parliament, all the property, rights and liabilities of the British Steel Corporation will be transferred to a public limited company nominated by the Secretary of State. Any potential liability of BSC in respect of the matters referred to will therefore become the responsibility of the successor company and will be unaffected by the privatisation process.
