HL Deb 22 June 1988 vol 498 c910WA
Viscount Hanworth

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the possible connection between Alzheimer's disease and the intake of aluminium, they will discourage the use of uncoated aluminium saucepans.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Skelmersdale)

There is extensive current research into Alzheimer's disease. The only cause established so far is a genetic predisposition in a minority of cases. The research has not produced results which justify action to reduce the intake of aluminium from any source. Moreover, aluminium from cooking utensils contributes only a small proportion of the dietary intake.
