HC Deb 21 June 1988 vol 135 c492W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Prime Minister if, when she visits Poland later this year, she will raise with the authorities there the treatment of workers in joint ICL-Polish Government enterprises; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I have been asked to reply.

My right hon. Friend will certainly emphasise her concern about human rights in Poland and the need for trade union pluralism. I understand that ICL's joint venture agreement covers the marketing of their products in Poland and of Polish furniture in the West, and that the company has no direct involvement in manufacturing or the management of individual enterprises in Poland.
