Mr. Alfred Morris

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he plans to impose a 14 to 20 per cent tax on talking books for blind and disabled people, and on aids and equipment for disabled people, in accordance with proposals from the Commission of the European Communities.

[holding answer 10 June 1988]: I have made it clear on a number of occasions that Her Majesty's Government do not accept the Commission's proposals for the approximation of indirect taxation.
