HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c372W
1986. Sir Russell Johnston

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the value, in 1980 prices, of British bilateral aid to the Southern Africa Development Co-ordination Conference and the front line states in(a) 1980, and (b)

Mr. Chris Patten

In 1980 prices gross bilateral aid to the member states of the Southern African Development Co-ordination Conference was £133 million in 1980 and £73.5 million in 1986. The 1980 figure is particularly high because of large post-independence expenditure in Zimbabwe. Finance pledged to the Southern African Development Co-ordination Conference is recorded as aid to a particular country once expenditure has taken place.
