To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much money has been spent on section 11 grants under the Local Government Act 1966 in each of the last four years.

The amount of grant paid under section 11 of the Local Government Act 1966 in respect of each of the last four years was:

1985–86	81.2
1986–87	87.8
1987–88	98.8

The figures for 1986–87 and 1987–88 are estimates subject to adjustment when claims from local authorities are finally settled. The grant represents 75 per cent. of the eligible expenditure incurred by local authorities.
