HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c371W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Attorney-General what are the implications for the Crown Prosecution Service of the recommendations in the North report on fatal road accidents.

The Attorney-General

The road traffic law review, chaired by Dr. Peter North, published its report on 12 April this year. The report contains 137 recommendations, several of which propose major restructuring of the current road traffic offences which may be applicable when a fatal accident occurs, including those where drink is involved. The report is currently receiving detailed scrutiny, and whilst I cannot anticipate any future legislation, the Crown Prosecution Service would naturally welcome any move which would assist in bringing to justice on appropriate charges those who commit serious driving offences.
