HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 c341W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many super VC10 aircraft have been purchased from British Airways; what was the cost of the purchase; how many are now in service as tanker aircraft; how much has been spent on converting super VC10s to tankers; and what is the intended fate of the remaining aircraft.

Mr. Sainsbury

In March 1981, at a cost of £3.75 million, 14 Super VC10s were bought from British Airways as spares to support the rest of the VC10 fleet: some additional spare parts were included in the package. Six aircraft remain, five of which are earmarked for conversion to tankers. The rest were used as sources of spare parts.
