HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 c320W
Mr. Fallon

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he will estimate the amount spent per head in industrial support and investment promotion in(a) the northern region and (b) Scotland.

Mr. Atkins

The amount spent per head on industrial support and investment promotion as regional preferential assistance, in the most recent year for which figures are available, is as follows:

Expenditure per head of civilian working population, 1986–87
£
Northern Region 96.6
Scotland 99.6

Notes:

1. The expenditure figures are based on regional development grants, regional selective assistance (under section 7 of the Industry Act 1982), expenditure on land and factories by the English Industrial Estates Corporation, the Scottish Development Agency and the Highlands and Islands Development Board.

2. Civilian working population comprises employees in employment, the self-employed and the unemployed.
