HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 c326W
Mr. Favell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to enable the courts in appropriate cases to withdraw, for any period to be fixed by them, the right to hold a British passport of anyone convicted of a hooligan-type offence and who, in their opinion, is likely to bring Britain into disrepute if allowed to travel abroad.

Mr. Douglas Hurd

As part of the measures announced by the Government on 16 June to deal with problems of football hooliganism, we shall be considering whether the courts should have powers in the longer term to impose restrictions on overseas travel following conviction for an offence.
