HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 c347W
Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received on the import of domestic waste from New York to Warrington; what are the risks of the generation of animal or plant diseases from this waste; and if he will receive a delegation from Cheshire county council on this matter.

Mr. Gummer

My Department has received a number of representations on this matter and is assessing whether such imports would endanger animal or plant health. Overall responsibility for imports of domestic waste rests with the Department of the Environment and it would therefore be for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State to receive a delegation from Cheshire county council. I understand that he will be happy to do so.
