HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 c253W
Mr. Forth

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many trees have been planted by his Department in England since 1979.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Since 1979 we have planted 12.25 million trees and shrubs alongside our motorways and other trunk roads in England. The Secretary of State is the most prolific planter of trees for amenity purposes in the country.
