HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 c228W
Mr. Hood

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has on the hazards to health of farm workers involved in the process of sheep dipping; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Operators exposed to sheep dips containing organophosphorus compounds may experience some adverse reaction. All approved products carry safety warnings which advise on the appropriate precautions which should be taken to minimise exposure.

Mr. Hood

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what guidance his Department has given to the agriculture industry concerning precautions in the process of dipping sheep.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Advisory leaflets are available to farmers which set out the precautions operators should take when dipping sheep. It is also a requirement that safety precautions are included on the labels of all licensed sheep dips.
