§ Mrs. CurrieThe Department's chief medical officer, Sir Donald Acheson, wrote to all doctors in England about meningitis on 3 February, emphasising that it is a statutory requirement under the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984 for cases of meningitis to be notified to the proper officer, usually the medical officer for environmental health. A copy of the letter is in the Library.
