HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 cc193-4W
Mr. John M. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what quantitative and qualitative effects upon the casework for the forensic science service he expects to flow from his recent proposals for the staffing of that service and his intention to maintain the allocation of resources to the service at their present levels.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The current proposals for the staffing of the Home Office forensic science service are intended to enhance its ability to meet the demands on it, by increasing the total number of officers reporting cases to the courts, and enabling the service to recruit and retain the staff needed for this work. The total resources available to the service will be maintained at their present level, but we will keep under review the case for increasing them.
