§ Mr. CranTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science, pursuant to the answer of 13 May,Official Report, column 259, what plans he has to extend the provision for training to exporters for the Japanese market.
Mr. JacksonAs I said in my reply of 13 May, the network of language export training centres is capable of 185W providing training to exporters for the Japanese market. The network has been established under the local collaborative projects scheme, which is jointly funded through the Department's professional, industrial and commercial updating programme and the Training Commission. The network is currently being extended to give full nationwide coverage. The centres will also have the potential to use open learning techniques, thereby increasing the opportunities for access by business. The Department of Education and Science is in consultation with the Department of Trade and Industry on how to expand the demand for the network's Japanese services as well as other possible ways of enhancing Japanese language training for exporters.
