Mr. Robert G. HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will now lay before Parliament regulations implementing the European directive on environmental assessment (85/337/EEC) for projects subject to planning controls.
§ Mr. WaldegraveYesterday I laid before Parliament the draft Town and Country Planning (Assessment of Environmental Effects) Regulations 1988. They require to be approved by resolution of each House before they can be made. I hope that both Houses will approve the drafts so that they may be made before 3 July. Copies of these draft regulations have been placed in the Library and will be available for sale at Her Majesty's Stationery Office from 20 June. Drafts of further regulations relating to projects which are not subject to planning control, and equivalent Scottish regulations, are also being laid before Parliament.
