§ Mr. Tony BanksTo ask the Prime Minister why she is unable to receive Dr. Sergio Ramirez, Vice-President of Nicaragua, on his forthcoming visit to Europe; when was the last time she received an invitation to meet the Vice-President; what was her response; when she last met the Vice-President of Nicaragua; and if she will make a statement.
§ The Prime MinisterThe Nicaraguan ambassador informed us that Dr. Ramirez, whom I last met in February 1985, wished to visit the United Kingdom on 11 and 12 July during a tour of European capitals. I did not intend to receive him on this occasion, but my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs agreed to do so. I now understand, however, that Dr. Ramirez has decided not to include the United Kingdom in his tour.
