HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 cc244-5W
Mr. Heddle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his inspector's decision with regard to the discontinuing of office use of Brook house, Park lane, London W1, and of other such properties after 1990.

Mr. Waldegrave

Following the report of an inspector who held a local inquiry into an appeal by MEPC plc, against the decision of Westminster city council to refuse planning permission for the continued use for offices purposes of Brook house beyond 1990, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State issued his decision to dismiss the appeal. His reasons for the decision are fully documented in his decision letter dated 17 May 1988. The Secretary of State has no further jurisdiction in the matter.

Decisions relating to other such properties are a matter for Westminster city council. In so far as individual cases may come before the Secretary of State, for example on appeal, they will be dealt with on their merits.
