§ Mrs. CurrieInvestment in National Health Service building is continuing at record levels. Information held centrally shows there are now 504 health building schemes, each costing over £1 million, at various stages of planning, design and construction. The total values of the programme is estimated at £3.8 billion and capital expenditure this financial year is expected to exceed £1 billion.
§ 47. Mr. Greg KnightTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many major hospital building schemes have been started and completed since 1979.
§ Mrs. CurrieInformation held centrally shows that, since 1 April 1979, a total of 286 health building schemes each costing over £1 million, have been started and completed. This is the biggest sustained building programme ever in the history of the National Health Service. A list has been placed in the Library.
