HC Deb 10 June 1988 vol 134 c712W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what advice his Department is giving to trade unions about the creation of a single European market in 1992; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Cope

[holding answer 9 June 1988]: The Government aim, through their awareness campaign on the single European market, to stimulate everyone connected with business to be aware of the challenge of 1992, and to take action accordingly. The opportunities that the single market offers for boosting growth and so increasing employment are important for all union members. We hope that union members will encourage their employers to anticipate and take full advantage of I he opportunities.
