HC Deb 10 June 1988 vol 134 cc691-3W
Mr. Warren

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) to whom the data are given which are supplied by applicants wishing to sell computers who are required to complete his Department's computer questionnaire; and if he will make a statement;

These figures should be treated with more than the usual caution because of major changes to customs procedures introduced in January 1988, details of which were given in a reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Hertfordshire, South-West (Mr. Page) on 7 December 1987, at columns 34–35.

Information on the make up of imports, within acceptable cost limits, is given in the tables:

(2) to whom the data are given which are supplied by applicants wishing to sell computers who are required to complete his Department's export licence application,; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Clark

Applications for export licences and supporting data are considered by DTI officials and, in many cases, by officials of other Departments from whom the DTI seeks advice.

In the case of applications to export certain items to the proscribed destinations, COCOM partners are also consulted. For this purpose, brief details, which do not identify the exporter, are provided to COCOM partners.

The circulation of a particular export licence application and its supporting documents will depend upon the level of technology involved and the proposed ultimate destination.
