HC Deb 09 June 1988 vol 134 cc670-1W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many people were trained in the specialised use of laser equipment to treat cervical cancer in the previous 12 months; and if he will give a regional breakdown of how many people are currently employed in this work;

(2) if he will list those district health authorities which do and do not have laser equipment to treat cervical cancer.

Mrs. Currie

I regret that this information is not available centrally.

Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make additional money available to the West Midlands regional health authority for the purchase of laser equipment by the North Staffordshire district health authority.

Mrs. Currie

The allocation of resources by regions and districts is a matter for the health authorities concerned. This year's revenue allocation to the West Midlands is 10.39 per cent. higher in cash terms and 5.64 per cent. higher in real terms than last year's, and I understand that the initial revenue allocation to North Staffordshire district health authority for 1988–89 now stands at £103,906,000, compared with £93,337,000 in 1987–88.
