HC Deb 09 June 1988 vol 134 cc677-8W
35. Sir John Farr

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the present prospects for beef graziers.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The prospects for beef graziers are encouraging. The average price of fat cattle in Great Britain in the week ended 21 May is provisionally estimated to have been 110.28p per kg liveweight, 11.4 per cent. up on the price in the corresponding week last year. Throughout the EC as a whole, beef supplies are affected by the reductions in dairy cow numbers and this should help to sustain the current firmer tone of the market.
