HC Deb 08 June 1988 vol 134 c585W
Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give the sums expended on television and press advertising in order to make the general public aware of(a) the operations at Sellafield in each of the years since its name was changed and (b) the privatisation of British Gas.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The advertising costs incurred by Government during the flotation of British Gas plc amounted to £24.6 million, including VAT, of which TV and press advertising amounted to £21.1 million.

Advertising by British Nuclear Fuels plc is a matter for the company. I am asking the chairman to write to the hon. Member with the information requested.
