HC Deb 07 June 1988 vol 134 cc519-20W
Mr. Ingram

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give for each of the five new towns details of any discussions which have taken place between new town officials and private developers or any other housing body on the management under an agency agreement of any part of the new town housing stock.

Mr. Lang

Preliminary discussions have taken place between representatives of Quality Street and Glenrothes development corporation, which included the possibility of a management agency covering a portion of the housing stock. Those discussions were exploratory and no commitments were made on either side. No such discussions have as yet taken place in the other four towns, although an exploratory meeting has been arranged between Livingston development corporation and Quality Street, at the latter's request.

Mr. Ingram

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if any advice has been given to any of the new town development corporations to enter into discussions with private developers on the disposal or management of the new town housing stocks; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

The Scottish new town development corporation continue to receive advice on the Government's housing policy objectives in the regular meetings which take place between officials of my Department and those of the corporations. There is nothing new about discussions between private housing developers and development corporations.
