Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list all those official engagements in the previous 12 months at which the subject of the illness myalgic encephalomyelitis has been raised.

Mrs. Currie

Representatives from the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Association met my noble Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State on 21 March and had earlier had a meeting with officials.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received from the British Medical Association on the illness myalgic encephalomyelitis.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has had from organisations seeking help for the sufferers of myalgic encephalomyelitis

Mrs. Currie

The Department has received representations from the ME Association and from the Tayside post viral fatigue syndrome support group.

Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many sufferers of myalgic encephalomyelitis are at present being treated in the United Kingdom.

I regret that these figures are not held centrally.
