To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what date in August mortgage interest tax relief becomes applicable to a property.

[holding answer 27 May 1988]: I assume my hon. Friend is referring to the proposed change to a residence basis for mortgage interest relief. Under clause 41 of the Finance Bill this will take effect from I August 1988.
